ACCOUNTANT (TRAVEL INDUSTRY)


  • Our Client in the Travel Industry is looking for a middle level account whose role is as indicated below:

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Develop and maintain accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely generation of financial statements and reports.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Accounts Principle:

    • Develop and implement goals, policies and procedures relating to financial accounting, management and budgeting.
    • Ensure that policies and procedures (internal controls) are reasonably in place and strictly followed to safeguard Company assets..
    • Oversee the general accounting function that includes accounting, cash management/reconciliation, financial analysis and reporting and balance sheet management.
  • Accounts Operation:

    • Responsible for overall financial planning and management including cash flow, creditors and debtors.
    • Create and maintain accurate and appropriate Company books of account.
    • Be the custodian and signatory of the payment voucher.
    • Process all payments being made and ensure that there is substantial documental evidence to support the payment.
    • Ensure that fortnight and seasonal expenditure budgets are adhered to and only valid claims with proper expense support documents and management approval are paid for.
    • Manage petty cash expenditure, including money advanced to staff as imprest. Ensure all imprests are accounted for in time and reconciliation is done at the end of the month.
  • Banking Matters:

    • Carry out bank reconciliation at the end of the month.
    • Carry out foreign exchange adjustment at the end of the year.
    • In consultation with the Director, liaise with the bankers for settlement of discrepancies and clarification of entries made in the bank account statements.
  • Financial Audit

    • Co-ordinate and oversee quarterly and annual external financial audits
    • Ensure that accurate data on books of account is captured in the external audits.
    • Make adjustments in the books of accounts to reflect the external audit report.
    • In consultation with the Director and liaison with the external auditor ensure that the reporting of annual accounts is as per the legal requirement in regards depreciation, dividends and taxation.
  • Debtor Management:

    • Take the lead in designing, implementation and review of the company credit control procedure, and develop and implement enhancements.
    • Design and supervision an appropriate means of debts collection and ensure that direct debit payment system is appropriately monitored and documented.
    • Be overall in charge of debtors management and debt collection activity.
  • Qualifications

    • Minimum of 5 years post Qualification Experience in Accounting profession.
    • Must have CPA Qualification.
    • Experience in the Travel Industry will be an added advantage.
    • Experience handling BSP would be a plus
    • Able to prepare management Accounts
    • Salary between 50 to 75K (gross) depending on your qualifications and experience.

Estate Manager (Coffee/Cocoa/Horticulture)


  • The Manager is responsible for all operations of the allocated estate, including Coffee (Major), Tea, timber and alternative crop businesses. In close liaison with the General Manager, the Manager will coordinate the resources of the estate, making decisions and implementing policies to ensure that all the entities operate effectively.


  • The Manager is also responsible for the optimum adherence to production systems as well as conducting and coordinating research and directing development. The Manager is responsible for recommending applicable technical and management practices required for the ongoing operations and business development of the estate. Of key importance for the Estate Manager is the training and development of the workforce to ensure consistent and improving supply of high-quality tea, Coffee, Cocoa and horticultural products.

Reporting to the General Manager key focus areas include:

  • Financial Planning and Reporting
  • Human Resource Management
  • New Product and crop Development
  • Supply chain Management.
  • Out grower Management
  • Operations Management

Qualifications

  • Agricultural or related discipline qualification.
  • Experience in an Estate operation for a minimum of 5 years at Middle / senior management level.
  • A proven management track record, preferably within the plantation, horticulture or food processing sectors.
  • Computer literate, Basic accounting & human Resource qualifications.
  • In depth knowledge of agricultural practices - specifically in tea growing and its production are essential.
  • Good communication skills - both verbal and written.
  • Experience in writing reports, cost and budget control.
  • Demonstrable experience in devising and implementing cohesive business strategies.
  • Sound team management skills; able to effectively marshal the abilities of a team to achieve a cohesive business plan.
  • A self starter and self motivated employee
  • Must also have experience within the coffee industry and has been involved in setting up coffee factory.
  • Further the person will be handling Cocoa, Timber and horticultural produce.

Credit Controller


  • Our Client is looking for a Credit Controller whose role will be coordinating the debts of existing creditors and deciding whether to allow credit to a debtor & managing all money borrowed or owed to your business.


  • It is vital that a Credit Controller builds and maintains close links with all customers, to ensure smooth running of accounts and encourage timely recovery of payments.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure internal controls around accounts receivable are complied with
  • Ensure that customer credit is managed as per company policy and Budgeted debtors days are achieved through timely collection of overdue accounts
  • Liaise with customers to ensure good customer relationship is maintained
  • Ensure that customer credit limits are strictly managed as per company policy
  • Ensure an exemption report of accounts with exceeded limits is generated monthly and circulated to Head of Finance, Managing Director and Head of Sales and marketing.
  • Ensure that exemption reports on customers with overdue accounts are generated and circulated to members of the management team on a weekly basis
  • Ensure customer statement are generated on a monthly basis and passed to Head of Sales for onward distribution to customers
  • Ensure that customer accounts aging analysis is generated, reviewed and red flag raised on customers with overdue accounts
  • Ensure that the debtors aging report is accurate through timely and accurate allocation of payments against invoices
  • Ensure that the NIL invoice report is run on a weekly basis and circulated to the relevant staff
  • Ensure that the Accounts Receivable ledger agrees with the General Ledger control accounts by 5th day after month end close
  • Maintenance of the provisions and accruals accounts and ensuring that sundry debtors accounts is properly reconciled on a monthly basis
  • Resolving customers queries on a timely basis
  • Performing any other work as may be allocated form time to time

Qualifications

  • Degree in Business related field: Accounting, Finance or Economics
  • CPA K or any other equivalent qualification a must
  • 5 Years Credit control in a company that distributes Industry
  • Must have scored at least a B+ or above at KCSE.
